Did you know?
- Almost every treatment center in America uses the Minnesota Model (MM), but two years after treatment, recovery is the exception not the rule.
- Recent research of the MM model revealed a direct relationship between the amount of confrontation used in “treatment” and the amount an alcoholic will drink one year after treatment.
- Currently, more than 2,000 sources of scientifically valid, research-based information is available regarding what works and what doesn’t work in treatment. Previously, few outcome studies on the MM were conducted, and were flawed.
- Among the least effective treatment interventions are lectures and videotapes.
- Contrary to conventional “wisdom” resistance is not denial nor pathology, but a function of the relationship between the client and counselor. Counselors are responsible for recognizing resistance as data, which should be used to help, instead of to blame the patient.
Group Structure
- 3 groups per week, 2 hours per night = 54 hours.
- 9 weeks, plus 52 weeks of aftercare = 60 weeks.
No two treatment plans are alike since no two people are alike.
